This year is the 60th Anniversary for the Southern Rockhounds, we are looking forward to a fantastic year celebrating the achievements of past and current members. Keep an eye on the details below for upcoming events.

​​Membership Renewals​

A reminder that membership fees were due end of February. Any membership fees renewed after the 1st March will incur a $10 re-joining fee.

​

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN 2026?

2026 is a big year for the Rockhounds as it is the Club's 60th Anniversary, the management committee is busy planning events, if you have any ideas to contribute about an event you would like to see then let a committee member know so it can be discussed.

 

A program of social meetings, on the first Monday of each month, with guest speakers and events for 2026 is below:

THE YEAR SO FAR!!

​

  • March 28th - Quiz Night held at the Club room was extremely well attended and a great night was had by all. Congratulations to the winning team and all other winners on the night with the spot games!!

​

  • April - no General meeting due to the Easter weekend

​

  • May 4th - Guest speaker will be Peter Hunt, a Malacologist,  discussing Shells and Molluscs

​

  • June 1st - Guest speaker, Diego Garcia-Bellida on Fossils - The night was extremely well attended and supported by Club members listening to Diego's enthusiastic presentation on fossils around SA. A very informative evening.

​

STILL TO COME THIS YEAR!!

​

  • July 6th - Guest speaker, Chris Phillips covering Micro-Mounts​ and Minerals

​

  • August 17th - Comfort Fire night, come along and enjoy some hot soup and damper, friendly banter around the fire pit.

​

  • September 7th - Guest speaker, Henry Cowell with an A.E.D. talk, demo and familiarisation night, come along and learn/see how an A.E.D. works.Given the broad availability of these emergency devices in public areas it would be great to see how to use one in the off-chance that you may need to assist someone in the future.

  • October 31st & November 1st - Annual Gem Fair

​

Field trips for 2026  - open to members only.

​

  • May 23rd - Kapunda Mine Tour organised for May to coincide "History Month" celebrations saw a great attendance by 18 Club members who listened to local tour guide, Andrew, narrate the story of the old mine before heading of on informative stroll around the old mine site viewing key aspects of, what was at that time, the richest copper deposit in the world!!

​

  • June 20th -  GMCASA Multi club Gem and Mineral Pop-up show is being organised to allow interaction between the members of all South Australian Gem and Mineral Clubs. This should be a great opportunity to meet with like minded Rockhounds and see what goes on at other clubs in SA as well as picking up a few specimens you have been searching for!!

​

  • We are currently in the process of organising a field trip to the Mining and Energy SA's Drill Core Library located at Tonsley. This will be a midweek field trip due to the operating hours of the Core Library, keep an eye out at the Club for registration form

​

  • October Long weekend ( 3rd, 4th, 5th) -  field trip for the weekend to the Broken Hill Gem and Mineral show. Possibility of joining a mineral fossicking trip in the area. Registrations of interest now open in the Club rooms.

​

AGM

​

Our AGM will be held on Monday 19th October 2026 at 7.30pm at the club rooms.

 

Workshops

 

A reminder to ALL WORKSHOP ATTENDEES that it is mandatory that you sign in when attending the Club and that you adhere to the WHS guidelines related to your workshop. Common to all is the necessity for appropriate dress including covered footwear and PPE use where required. Your attention to ensuring that you are complying with these guidelines is paramount and appreciated.

Workshops except beading are continuing- see timetable 

​

Prepaid Workshop cards are now available, everyone who are already using these are enjoying the freedom of not having to find change each week to attend their workshops, and you get your 11th attendance free. WIN / WIN!!

See your Workshop managers or Committee member to get one.

 

GEM FAIR 

Our next Gem Fair will be on the 7th & 8th November 2026 so put the date in your calendar now. Club volunteers are always a valuable resource and no time is more important than helping out at our main Club annual event, so consider WHERE YOU can be of assistance at this time.
